Mucha Tarea

Ah, I knew this would happen. This type of reflective writing has always been hard to me and now I'm being a horrible blogger. I don't know if it's the fact that I just finished a 10 page paper, it's 2am, or that in one hour I will be traveling to Argentina, but I've decided to post some tidbits. The following is the start of what was going to be a complete blog post.

I felt my first tremor the other day! It was kind of surreal because I didn't immediately understand what was going on. I was sitting on my bed doing homework when I felt the mattress starting to sway back and forth. It lasted about 5 seconds. At first I thought maybe when I had shifted my sitting position, I had maybe made the bed rock. Hoping I wasn't gaining that much weight, I jumped slightly on the bed to see if it would move but it didn't move like it did before. I went over to the kitchen and asked my host mom if she had felt it but she hadn't because she had been standing while preparing dinner. The nightly news later confirmed the tremor. It's funny because before coming to Chile, I hadn't even really thought about this possibility. My theory was that the next big earthquake wouldn't hit Santiago for another fifteen years. But after feeling the ease with which the ground could move me, I can't imagine experiencing anything bigger.

But no worries, I'm alive and doing fun things like going to a Shakira concert. According to Chilean news, which had been covering Shakira's arrival for several days before the concert, she wouldn't go on until 9:30pm. Not taking our chances in finding good seats we arrived there at 4:45 pm to watch Train, two unfamiliar Latin bands, and Ziggy Marley open for Shakira.
1. It was AMAZING
2. The fact that "Hey Soul Sister" plays in like 50% of commercials here and that it was the one American song we could really relate to, made me and my friends be more excited than we normally would be listening to Train
3. I wish I could dance like Shakira
4. The gossip here in Chile is that Shakira had two ribs removed to make her waist smaller and help her dance better. I refuse to believe it.

That's all for know. In the mean time, check out this article in which my study abroad group appears!
